K2 8,611 meters

K2, also known as Mount Godwin-Austen or Chhogori, is the second-highest mountain in the world after Mount Everest. It stands at an imposing height of 8,611 meters (28,251 feet) and is located on the border between Pakistan and China's Xinjiang region. The mountain is part of the Karakoram mountain range, which is considered one of the most challenging and inhospitable mountain ranges on Earth. K2 is renowned for its extreme difficulty and is often referred to as the "Savage Mountain." It has a reputation for unpredictable weather conditions, steep and icy slopes, and technical climbing challenges that make it one of the most dangerous mountains to climb. Due to its sheer height and ruggedness, K2 is considered a greater mountaineering challenge than Mount Everest. The first successful ascent of K2 took place on July 31, 1954, by an Italian expedition led by Ardito Desio. Since then, numerous attempts to conquer K2 have been made, but the success rate remains relatively low. The mountain has claimed the lives of many experienced climbers over the years. Despite its difficulty, K2 continues to attract experienced mountaineers who seek the ultimate challenge in high-altitude climbing. The climbing season for K2 typically occurs during the summer months, from June to August when the weather is comparatively more stable. However, even during this time, climbers face treacherous conditions and must be well-prepared and equipped for the risks associated with climbing K2.
